Wee Wilson Tales

For a school pumpkin parade project, Jax has to come up with a character from a book that he enjoys reading. Then we had to decorate the pumpkin like that character. I made a couple of suggestions (Pete the Cat, Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), which Jax immediately shot down. He picked a book from our bookcase about ghosts of Mississippi which I immediately shot  down. I told him that he must pick a book that he actually reads. About 30 minutes later, Jax walked into the kitchen announced his new selection: "I have picked The Bible, and I want my pumpkin to be Jesus." Well, how do you argue with that request?? However, I could not imagine how in the world we could accomplish such a thing. John and Jax took off to Walmart to look for some Jesus hair. Unfortunately, Walmart was all out of potential Jesus hair. So we asked Jax if there was another character from his Bible that he would like to use. He chose Moses. My kids love to spend the night with Sasa and Grandaddy. They love Sasa and her cooking. They love to listen to Grandaddy tell his stories about Grandmama and Grandaddy Ogie. Unfortunately, there are some costs associated with these trips...they also like Grandaddy's big toys. Today they had written letters to Santa when I picked them up....four wheeler and a Vulcan motorcycle. 

A little background...I had recently finished watching the North and the South series...one of my x-mas presents in 2012. The kids would sometimes watch with me. And, you may have already seen it...but the central plot of the story is this friendship between Orry (Southerner) and George (Northerner) who remain friends despite being enemies in war. Little did I know that Jax was making applications to his own friendships. His sweet friend, Seth Slocum, has been his best buddy since 4K in Mrs. Penny's class at Northwest. They have played soccer together, spent the night together, gone to midnight movie premiers with their dads, gone bowling, birthday parties, and two full years of school together (4K & 5K). But Seth has a late birthday, and I knew that there was a possibility that he would be held back to repeat kindergarten. I had gently broached the subject with Jax about a month prior to this conversation by saying that there is no garantee that Seth will be in his same class...

What an amazing year we have had with Jax in 5K at MHS! I could not be more pleased with our experience. It is amazing to listen to him read and sound out words, and just to reflect back on all he has learned this year. In addition to education, he has gotten his yellow belt in karate, and played soccer and baseball. It has been a busy year. He has gone on field trips to the zoo, Cedar Hills Farm, Panola Playhouse, Back Yard Burger, and the park...not to mention a party for every holiday! He has made new friends and held tight to his best little friend, Seth Slocum. Some things that I want to remember about his kindergarten year: The first day of school, he said he was a little scared. At one point in the school year he told me that sometimes parents come to lunch to eat with his classmates, but told me that he DID NOT want me to do that at all.
