Birth Story

So we got to the hospital bright and early Wednesday morning. By the time they got me to the room and checked me, I was already 4 cm. The doctor came through and broke my water at 8:30. I got really nervous because the hospital said I had Group B Strep, so I needed 5 hours of antibiotics before I could safely deliver Jax . BUT my doc's office report had said I was negative. So I was really confused by that, and told my doctor. He said they just misread my report - I was negative - and told them to discontinue my antibiotics. I really debated about the epidural, but I was progressing so fast that the nurse said I may not have a choice about doing it if I waited any longer. At the time, I still thought that I had GBS so I WANTED to slow down labor so they could get the antibiotics the full 5 hours to run. I'm glad I ended up not needing the antibiotics anyway. So I got the epi when I was 6 cm. The only problem I had was when they were doing my cath , I got really weak. I told...

1 More Day of Just Jax

Well, I've shopped and walked all day today! I bought Jax some really cute clothes at Gymboree. He was very excited to see his loot when I got home! I've been to Target, Saddle Creek mall, Wolfechase Galleria, Steak Escape with John and Aaron, Gymboree, Babies R Us, the granite store . . . I guess I was enjoying my last day out of the house for a little while. My appointment was good. The doctor stripped my membranes and I can definitely tell that has done something!! We are scheduled to go in tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. So wish us luck and say a prayer that everything will go smoothly! This afternoon, I took Jax on a long ride on Big Red. We sang, and he really tried to help me sing the Alphabet song and Doe a Dear. It was so sweet. He also patted on my belly and gave it a kiss one last time. I know he doesn't really understand it, but it just melted my heart. Tonight, when it was time to put him to bed, I was an emotional wreck. I couldn't help but cry. I'm so ...

2 More Days of Just Jax!!

Image
Last night did not go as well in the big boy bed. This time it took 1 1/2 hours to go through his bedtime routine (story, songs, prayer) and for him to fall asleep. He was asleep 3 1/2 hours before he woke up. I went right in and put him back in the bed and layed down with him. It only took about 5 minutes for him to get back to sleep that time. But then he woke again at 2:30 a.m. He had already opened his door and come into the hall when I jumped up. This time I just couldn't lay there long enough for him to go back to sleep. He was talking and pinching my face...and I was so stopped up that I just couldn't do it. I don't know why, but my sinus problems came back Sunday. Anyway, I took him to the crib....took down the mobile and bumper and tossed him in. I know this is just going to be a process that I have to be patient with. I had more really painful contractions yesterday. I thought (again) we might be heading to the hospital, but they were not consistent. So it looks l...

3 More Days of Just Jax!

Well today started with breakfast at my parent's house. Then we came back and all had naps before church. Jax is starting to make it longer and longer in church now. But I can't do it without John blocking him in on one side. I thought about how we'll have 2 with us soon . . . I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be an easy baby. Jax has never been, and it takes all of my energy to keep him busy and quiet at church. It will be interesting! Then we had lunch with my parents. We celebrated my Dad's birthday today. We had a great time visiting with everyone, and I think Dad enjoyed his gifts. He's made what we call "a track" around the land in the back. We've been riding Big Red around it everyday, but we are also planning to use it to walk and exercise and even take the dogs on. I know it would be great to have it paved...but it's not going to happen. It would probably cost more than a car to pave around the whole "track." Anyw...

4 More Days of Just Jax

Image
Yesterday when I got home from work, Jax was working in front of the house with his Grandaddy. I was told that he'd already been hosed off once because he had so much sand on him. We pulled up all the bushes in front of our house, had sand brought in, and got new concrete poured for our porch. Today we've been VERY busy! We finished up as much as we could on Jax's room. We're still waiting on the rustic star drawer pulls that I've ordered to come in. Also, we are going to add some stars to the front of the toy box (just like ones on the headboard). And I will probably put something on the shelf in his room too, but I won't load all of the pictures of the cowboy room until Monday. It just takes way too long to upload pictures at home. Please note how hard my mom has worked!! She built the entire toy box and made and attached the cushions on top. She made the headboard for his bed including adding the roping around the edges and the stars on the front. She also ad...

5 More Days of Just Jax

Image
Why do I get myself into these commitments that I can't keep? Well, this may be a short post . . . but it's here as promised. I work late on Thursdays, so Jax is sound asleep by the time I get home! But I did catch a few pictures and a video this morning. Video: My favorite thing for him to say right now is Tick-Tock. It's just so cute. He'll say it when he looks at the timer on the exercise bike or watches or clocks. It's so sweet when he says it over and over...but he'd only say it once for me this morning and then got mad because I wouldn't give him the watch. He slept until I woke him up this morning around 7:15. So this is a bedhead breakfast shot! The shirt he is wearing was actually mine when I was little. It says Nashville on it. I let him sleep in it because it has that great old soft t-shirt feel!!!

6 More Days of Just Jax

Alright, I've already admitted that I'm feeling somewhat emotional about Jax not being the baby anymore. So I've decided to do a Just Jax countdown. I will TRY and post every day something about Jax while it is still JUST JAX! So here it goes.... Last night Jax went to sleep in his big boy bed for the first time! It wasn't hard at all. We had started doing our bedtime routine in there (song, story, prayer) and last night I just turned off the light and layed down beside him. I was so surprised that he went on to sleep. Of course, I had to put pillows down all around the floor in case he fell off, move the monitor in there, and move his noisemaker fan in there too. He woke up about 2 1/2 hrs later (I think I was talking too loud), and I could see him standing in the middle of the room. I know he was confused and wondering where he was. Instead of laying back down with him, I just put him in his crib. I thought it was a good start though. Maybe he'll make it a littl...

The Latest

So at my appointment yesterday, I was doing GREAT! While that is a wonderful thing for me...something I have definitely prayed for...my doctor said that he had lost his medical reasons for inducing me. So now, he says the baby won't be coming this week. The week before my blood pressure was still a little elevated, but this week it was 130/82. He was happy with that. He did give me a chance to say that I had been checking it at home and it was high...but I just couldn't do it. So he asked me to come in Tuesday morning for an appt. He said not to eat or drink anything before my appt just in case. If my pressure is elevated even a little, he will send me straight to the hospital. Otherwise, I am to be at the hospital 9/17 at 8:00 a.m. to be induced. Funny thing is, I wasn't even disappointed that it isn't this week. I'm so thrilled to have really had a normal healthy pg (except for the diabetes which I've kept under ctrl the whole time). HOWEVER, I am very uncomfo...

Weekend

Image
We had a good weekend. I don't feel like I really accomplished that much though. Friday night, John and I took it easy...pizza & movie. Saturday my sister and mom came over to help me work on the boys' rooms. We painted doors, painted letters, washed swing and bassinet and clothes, hung pictures....but still didn't totally finish the room. So I'm not showing pictures of the rooms until all is done! Saturday night - I had my first babysitter (besides family) to come and watch Jax after he went to bed so we could have a night out. We were going to the Rendezvous, but I didn't think I could stand in line to wait for a table that long. We ended up at Outback Steakhouse where I had painful contractions about 5 minutes apart for 40 minutes. So we had to come straight home and let me lay down. They got more sporadic so we didn't have to go to the hospital after all. Sunday we went to church. Then Karen and my mom came over again to help me. We didn't do much at...

Baby Boy will be here soon!!

I forgot to post that I went back to the doctor last Friday because I was having contractions. They were every 15 minutes! My doc checked me out and said that it could be any time. He said that my cervix had thinned and was softer than it was Monday. So, the contractions were healthy ... making me dialate and prepare for this baby! He was thrilled b/c my blood pressure was back down to 120/72. Today I had my appointment. My blood pressure is still okay, but not as good as last week. I told him that I was very unhappy that my feet have started to swell because he won't let me exercise. I weighed the same this week as I did last week...showing a gain of 9lbs. However, he could see I've retained a LOT of fluid over the past week. My legs and feet were really puffy and tight. He said it probably means that I've lost a little weight, and gained a little fluid since last appt. I told him that I'm getting READY for this baby! He said let's see if your cervix is ready. Af...
