July 4th

We had a cookout for the 4th. We had all the required foods for the 4th: grilled chicken, barbecue chicken, ribs, potato salad, beans, squash, homemade ice cream! It was great! Johns family and my parents came. Believe it or not, we ran out of gas for our grill while grilling the chicken drummies for appetizers!! John had to run to town in the middle of our cooking!! My mom made vanilla ice cream and grape ice cream. My mom used to make Grape ice cream for us when we were kids. Wendy, I know it's your favorite & I still have some in the freezer!!!! Wendy would eat it for breakfast and lunch when she was staying with us one summer. She would make my sister and I eat real food though!!! You can see some of our deck in the pictures. I haven't posted pics of it yet b/c we haven't finished. John & my Dad did a ton of work on it in just a few days, but then my Dad has been so busy with work that they haven't finished up yet.

Jax has a new tooth coming in on the top now!! I guess he'll have a mouth full of teeth before long. He's also trying really hard to crawl. Yesterday he crawled but he was on his hands and feet with his bottom up high in the air! He can "belly crawl" all across the floor now, but just gets on his knees and rocks. Moses the Pumpkin

For a school pumpkin parade project, Jax has to come up with a character from a book that he enjoys reading. Then we had to decorate the pumpkin like that character. I made a couple of suggestions (Pete the Cat, Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), which Jax immediately shot down. He picked a book from our bookcase about ghosts of Mississippi which I immediately shot  down. I told him that he must pick a book that he actually reads. About 30 minutes later, Jax walked into the kitchen announced his new selection: "I have picked The Bible, and I want my pumpkin to be Jesus." Well, how do you argue with that request?? However, I could not imagine how in the world we could accomplish such a thing. John and Jax took off to Walmart to look for some Jesus hair. Banana Bedhead....

I'm sure that Paul Mitchell would be very interested in this new hairstyle that Jax modeled last night. I've known for quite some time that Jax is pretty smart. Now I think that it's obvious that he will also be very fashion savvy. After eating his entire bowl of Spaghetti-o ravioli, I cut up some bananas for him to eat. By the way, we've mastered this new way of eating...2 forks!! While he's feeding himself with one, I'm getting the other fork loaded up with the next bite. He would get a little stingy and refuse (okay, throw a fit) to hand back the fork. So problem solved = 2 forks!! Anyway, he gets pretty sticky when eating bananas because they obviously don't slide on the fork too well. So he uses his fingers. Naturally, the perfect place to wipe your hands when you don't have a shirt is in your hair. Plus fruit is good for you, so it must be good for your hair. Never Say Never!!! :)

I'm so proud to say that I made it one whole day without opening the envelope. LOL!!! John and I took Jax to the zoo yesterday. We were talking about the ultrasound on the way there, and John finally admitted that he REALLY did see the screen when we weren't supposed to look. He SAYS he didn't mean to, and that he thought she was finished. But, he said that the screen was zoomed in and he saw boy parts! So I ripped the envelope open as soon as we got home for our early-not so surprise- surprise . . . and here is what we saw. Anyway, I'll probably have to ban John for going in the ultrasound on number 3 now. Any volunteers to take his place??? I didn't really have any expectations about gender this time around . . . but I will admit that I'm hoping the third will be a girl!!! I think it's fun that Jax will have a brother to grow up with.
