Elf on the shelf

Does anyone else do this? Even though Jax is a little young, we started it this year. Judi Lucius at Special Daze told me about it. It is the cutest thing ever. Click on the photo above for the official site. But the gist of it....it's a gift set that includes a book and your own personal elf. The story is really cute, and it tells about your elf that will come to you home every year at Thanksgiving. He watches to see who's being naught and nice, and then flies with Christmas magic to the North Pole to report to Santa every night. So your job as "parents" is to move the elf to a different place every night. When the child wakes up in the morning, they get to look and see where the elf is. So we play the game every morning of looking to see where the elf is. It's really cute...so I just wanted to share!

I have never heard of it til this year, but I think my sister does it because my 5 yr old niece is TERRIFIED of the elf....she walks on pens and needles around him(which i guess is the point?). i don't know if they are still doing it, but i can remember them talking about it a couple of years ago.

I definitely like this and will probably do it next year. Thanks for sharing!

Moses the Pumpkin

For a school pumpkin parade project, Jax has to come up with a character from a book that he enjoys reading. Then we had to decorate the pumpkin like that character. I made a couple of suggestions (Pete the Cat, Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), which Jax immediately shot down. He picked a book from our bookcase about ghosts of Mississippi which I immediately shot  down. I told him that he must pick a book that he actually reads. About 30 minutes later, Jax walked into the kitchen announced his new selection: "I have picked The Bible, and I want my pumpkin to be Jesus." Well, how do you argue with that request?? Banana Bedhead....

I'm sure that Paul Mitchell would be very interested in this new hairstyle that Jax modeled last night. I've known for quite some time that Jax is pretty smart. Now I think that it's obvious that he will also be very fashion savvy. After eating his entire bowl of Spaghetti-o ravioli, I cut up some bananas for him to eat. By the way, we've mastered this new way of eating...2 forks!! While he's feeding himself with one, I'm getting the other fork loaded up with the next bite. He would get a little stingy and refuse (okay, throw a fit) to hand back the fork. So problem solved = 2 forks!! Anyway, he gets pretty sticky when eating bananas because they obviously don't slide on the fork too well. So he uses his fingers. Naturally, the perfect place to wipe your hands when you don't have a shirt is in your hair. Plus fruit is good for you, so it must be good for your hair. Jax's 3 1/2 year old birthday party

Yes, we love half birthdays! When you have a birthday too close to Christmas, it is so fun to celebrate a half birthday in the summer. Besides that, Lisa died the day before his birthday. Not an easy time for our family. My mom did this with me too...since I was a December baby..I sometimes had half birthday celebrations instead. Jax was very specific about his requests...he wanted a Rocky party...with Rocky and the Russian fighting on top of the cake. However, there was not enough room for both. Megan Lucius made the cake! I made the cookies...Lightning Bolt cookies..."When you eat lightning..." We had a poster printed up for a game...prizes were awarded based on which person caused the water balloon to break. It started storming in the middle of the party...all the kids came in for ice cream and cake. They watched Toy Story 2.(June 13, 2010)
