Christmas 2010

We had a wonderful Christmas this year. It was bittersweet, as it was our first Christmas without Lisa, Adam, Charlie pup, and our second without Uncle Mark. Christmas will never be the same without them. But anytime with family is cherished, and we spent lots of fun times with family!


It took so long for me to get in the Christmas spirit this year. I know, I know. I am the one usually putting my tree up at the beginning of November. But after losing Adam, I was too down in the dumps to even think about decorating. The first weekend in December, I forced myself to get in the spirit by going shopping for new tree decorations at Everblooms! I was soo proud of my tree that I decorated all by myself. I started at 10:00 pm on 12/2 and decorated until 2:30 in the morning. Of course, I always decorate in a red dress and high heels. This year I even had a new red dress. The kids were so excited when they woke up the next morning to finally see all the Christmas decorations out!

Gunnar's Christmas loot ... yes, Santa brought him his own "Pop" lovee that matches Jax and Ronin's Peep and Poe.
Ronin's loot - Indiana Jones hat, whip, Follow me Thomas, rifle, and cow that sings. Over and over this year, Ronin asked for a cow for Christmas. I am so glad Santa did not bring a real one!

Moses the Pumpkin

For a school pumpkin parade project, Jax has to come up with a character from a book that he enjoys reading. Then we had to decorate the pumpkin like that character. I made a couple of suggestions (Pete the Cat, Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), which Jax immediately shot down. He picked a book from our bookcase about ghosts of Mississippi which I immediately shot  down. I told him that he must pick a book that he actually reads. About 30 minutes later, Jax walked into the kitchen announced his new selection: "I have picked The Bible, and I want my pumpkin to be Jesus." Well, how do you argue with that request?? However, I could not imagine how in the world we could accomplish such a thing. John and Jax took off to Walmart to look for some Jesus hair. Banana Bedhead....

I'm sure that Paul Mitchell would be very interested in this new hairstyle that Jax modeled last night. I've known for quite some time that Jax is pretty smart. Now I think that it's obvious that he will also be very fashion savvy. After eating his entire bowl of Spaghetti-o ravioli, I cut up some bananas for him to eat. By the way, we've mastered this new way of eating...2 forks!! While he's feeding himself with one, I'm getting the other fork loaded up with the next bite. He would get a little stingy and refuse (okay, throw a fit) to hand back the fork. So problem solved = 2 forks!! Anyway, he gets pretty sticky when eating bananas because they obviously don't slide on the fork too well. So he uses his fingers. Naturally, the perfect place to wipe your hands when you don't have a shirt is in your hair. Plus fruit is good for you, so it must be good for your hair. Jax's 3 1/2 year old birthday party

Yes, we love half birthdays! When you have a birthday too close to Christmas, it is so fun to celebrate a half birthday in the summer. Besides that, Lisa died the day before his birthday. Not an easy time for our family. My mom did this with me too...since I was a December baby..I sometimes had half birthday celebrations instead. Jax was very specific about his requests...he wanted a Rocky party...with Rocky and the Russian fighting on top of the cake. However, there was not enough room for both. Megan Lucius made the cake! I made the cookies...Lightning Bolt cookies..."When you eat lightning..." We had a poster printed up for a game...prizes were awarded based on which person caused the water balloon to break. It started storming in the middle of the party...all the kids came in for ice cream and cake. They watched Toy Story 2.(June 13, 2010)
