JAX!

Jax turned four in January! He has grown up so much this year. He started the 3 and 4 year old program here at Northwest Community College this year. It has been so fun to watch him make friends and become independent. When he started the program, he clung to Mrs. Penny's leg. After Christmas, he was quite capable of taking care of himself in school. He is really smart, and it is great to see him have the opportunity to be in a good learning environment. He became really good friends with Canon at school, but also enjoyed playing with Braxton and Lee. He even asked his little friend (girl) Presley to go with him to see a movie! I promised him a bike if he would go to "school" for one full week to give it a try. So, he has also learned to ride a bike this year.

This year Jax has become quite the story teller...in a good way. I believe he is going to have his Grandaddy Ogie's story telling abilities. We had to spend the night with my parents a last month when our power was out. I could hear my Dad and Jax telling stories in the bed until midnight! He loves to hear a story, but especially loves the stories my Dad tells him about Grandaddy and Grandmama Ogie. I love to catch him retelling some of these stories to Ronin or even Gunnar. He depicts my Grandaddy like he was the toughest man that ever lived, and my Grandmama like she was the best cook that ever walked this earth.

Jax also loves to sing! One of the best ever Santa Claus gifts was the MP3 player. It came with kids songs on it, but I can connect to computer and add songs. Jax has quite the collection...Creedence Clearwater, ACDC, Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson's Thriller, Big Rock Candy Mountain, church songs, Sound of Music songs...and this boy loves to listen to his music.

Another big accomplishment of the year is that Jax taught himself how to swim. When we returned from our beach vacation beginning of June, Jax just did it. He went under and swam. With a little guidance from his Daddy, Jax can now swim all the way to the bottom in the deep end. He can swim from the deep-end all the way to the shallow. And his mommy has taught him to dive. I did not teach him to do a flip into the pool, but he did that on his own. I don't like it! We are very proud of him though.

Jax has become quite a little buddy to his daddy this year. It is really cute to see them actually hanging out. They talk about movies, watch movies together, wrestle, box, go to the movie theater, grocery shop ... Jax is always wanting to be by his Daddy's side. He is still a Mama's boy when it comes to boo-boo's and bedtime. But other than that, he is John's little mini-me.

I know!!! I can still feel/see the baby in Ronin sometimes, but not Jax! He is so big. But it is such a special thing to develop this real relationship with him too!!

Moses the Pumpkin

For a school pumpkin parade project, Jax has to come up with a character from a book that he enjoys reading. Then we had to decorate the pumpkin like that character. I made a couple of suggestions (Pete the Cat, Captain Flynn and the Pirate Dinosaurs), which Jax immediately shot down. He picked a book from our bookcase about ghosts of Mississippi which I immediately shot  down. I told him that he must pick a book that he actually reads. About 30 minutes later, Jax walked into the kitchen announced his new selection: "I have picked The Bible, and I want my pumpkin to be Jesus." Well, how do you argue with that request?? However, I could not imagine how in the world we could accomplish such a thing. John and Jax took off to Walmart to look for some Jesus hair. Banana Bedhead....

I'm sure that Paul Mitchell would be very interested in this new hairstyle that Jax modeled last night. I've known for quite some time that Jax is pretty smart. Now I think that it's obvious that he will also be very fashion savvy. After eating his entire bowl of Spaghetti-o ravioli, I cut up some bananas for him to eat. By the way, we've mastered this new way of eating...2 forks!! While he's feeding himself with one, I'm getting the other fork loaded up with the next bite. He would get a little stingy and refuse (okay, throw a fit) to hand back the fork. So problem solved = 2 forks!! Anyway, he gets pretty sticky when eating bananas because they obviously don't slide on the fork too well. So he uses his fingers. Naturally, the perfect place to wipe your hands when you don't have a shirt is in your hair. Plus fruit is good for you, so it must be good for your hair. Never Say Never!!! :)

I'm so proud to say that I made it one whole day without opening the envelope. LOL!!! John and I took Jax to the zoo yesterday. We were talking about the ultrasound on the way there, and John finally admitted that he REALLY did see the screen when we weren't supposed to look. He SAYS he didn't mean to, and that he thought she was finished. But, he said that the screen was zoomed in and he saw boy parts! So I ripped the envelope open as soon as we got home for our early-not so surprise- surprise . . . and here is what we saw. Anyway, I'll probably have to ban John for going in the ultrasound on number 3 now. Any volunteers to take his place??? I didn't really have any expectations about gender this time around . . . but I will admit that I'm hoping the third will be a girl!!! I think it's fun that Jax will have a brother to grow up with.
